Title: Senior Programs Intern

Description: Assists with preparation and delivery of two monthly, week-long lecture programs for groups of 40+ seniors each. Upon arrival, seniors are greeted warmly by coordinator and intern. Intern will develop relationships, which promote discovery, appreciation, and enjoyment of works of art at the Art Institute and nearby culturally rich areas.

Duties/Responsibilities: Attends lectures by Museum Education staff and prepares and delivers a 15-20 minute talk on an object mutually agreed upon by staff and intern. Assembles packets and other materials. On prearranged Sundays (4:15-7:30 p.m.), assists coordinator with registration and "setting the tone" for the week. Participates in program management two additional days each week.

Required Qualifications/Skills: Graduate or upper level undergraduate student with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to others. Genuine appreciation for the attributes, vitality of seniors, and recognition of their physical needs. Required: knowledge of art history, good organizational skills, and flexible with a lot of energy. Must have an Art History background and Macintosh experience. Preferred qualifications & skills: Familiarity with the museum and our collection.

Length of Program: One semester

Compensation Rate: Unpaid

College Credit: Available

Hours: Flexible. Minimum: 21 hours per week
